Let's take a look at CSFBL since its first public release on April 1, 2000, with help from the Internet Wayback Machine - just click on the dates to see the historic Web pages for those days. On some of those pages, you can link to other historic pages. April 1, 2000Version 1. No screens of this, but in a sense it allowed you to create a team and simulate games at will. When a sim was run, teams were matched up randomly for one game. No fatigue in the game at this point -- just play! Aug 22, 2000Version 2. CSFBL at the time was about six months old. There were no leagues - everyone was in one big league - but we now had a true endurance system (using a full pitching rotation). Check this out: "Every morning, one week (5-game series) will be simulated. After simulation, the next week's games will be scheduled for your review." How about that! It was easy then because we were still in early development and had little traffic. Feb 1, 2001Version 2. Still much of the same, but at this point the big changes were more traffic, which changed the sim schedule to one game per day Monday through Friday. Note the designer's notes reference -- I was hard at work on the next big thing: Version 3! Sep 27, 2001Version 3. Finally, we have leagues! Leagues had 12 teams, 160-game seasons, and all simmed at one game per day. At this point I didn't even code playoffs yet, because I knew I had at least five or so months before any league got to that point. My idea was to work on that, but I was soon redirected to... Jan 20, 2002Version 3; Version 4 announced. The big note is the big note on the page: "Want to know what's in store for CSFBL version 4?" Yes, Version 4 was my total focus at that point. Version 3 basically stopped getting any attention from me, and I began the most insane development period in the history of CSFBL, which spanned the first three months of 2002. May 31, 2002Version 4. Two months in and Version 4 basically eliminated anyone's interest in the old version (which persisted separately until September 2002). In fact, by the end of March 2002, Version 4's beta was getting as much traffic as Version 3! Jan 24, 2003Version 4. Remember those reliability problems? Between the DSL line and power problems in late 2002 through mid-2003, reliability turned out to be anything but "We're over a bunch of reliability hurdles"! Just see the Apr 3 2003 page... Nov 18, 2003Version 4. I posted this one because it was on my 33rd birthday. Since the release of version 4, a lot of small (and not-so-small) cosmetic and feature changes were implemented. Nothing warranted a full version number change (which is why we're still Version 4 today), but all the little things added a lot to make the game what it is today. Dec 17, 2003Version 4. Remember these notes? This is why I do colocation today! Feb 4, 2004Version 4. This is the last CSFBL entry in the Wayback machine. Remember those fatigue changes? I can't believe they were done so long ago! They seem like they were done yesterday! These did wonders to improving the pitching situation, especially to make closers a truly valued part of a team.
